Volunteering
Volunteering is optional — but it’s one of the fastest ways to grow your skills, build friendships, and strengthen FUJC. Start small, help consistently, and expand into bigger opportunities when you’re ready.
Why volunteer?
- Belonging: become part of the team, not just a participant.
- Skill growth: learn how sessions and competitions run behind the scenes.
- Leadership: build confidence, communication, and organisation.
- Impact: your help directly improves the experience for new members.
How to get started
- Tell a coach or committee member you’re keen to help.
- Pick a simple first task (mats, setup, welcoming beginners).
- We’ll match you to a role that fits your interests and time.
Volunteering roles
FUJC roles come first — this is where you make the biggest impact and build your foundation.
Training & session support
- Mats: setup and pack-down
- Welcoming and onboarding new members
- Helping run beginner courses / demo nights
- Timekeeping or simple admin during drills
Club operations & events
- Event support: O-Week stalls, open days, community demos
- Social media content support (photos, short clips)
- Gear and equipment organisation
- General admin support (forms, comms, checklists)
JudoSA (small add-on)
Once you’re comfortable helping at FUJC, you can also volunteer at state-level events (including novice competitions). Typical roles include scoring/timekeeping, mat assistance, weigh-in support, and general event logistics.
Volunteering pathway
Start with FUJC first — that’s the foundation. From there, volunteering can open up endless opportunities for growth.
1. Join FUJC
Become part of the club community.
2. Session helper
Mats, setup, welcoming beginners, admin support.
3. Club events
O-Week, open days, beginner courses.
4. Lead roles
Committee support, coordinators, captains.
5. JudoSA events
Novice comps, scoring, mat support.
6. Recognition & growth
Awards, officiating, coaching support, major events.
JudoSA opportunities
If you want to broaden your experience, JudoSA recognises volunteer contribution and shares pathways for service and awards.
Volunteer recognition
Get recognised: volunteer service can be acknowledged through awards and service recognition programs. If you’re building a consistent volunteering record, this can become a meaningful milestone.
Service points policy
